Windows does not have WordPad

Windows 95 had WordPad almost 30 years ago. Much like Microsoft Word, the fact that the Notebook app has survived on Windows for so long is surprising. Windows 11 no longer has it automatically. 26020 Windows 11 Insider Preview recently released this new update on the Canary Channel.

WordPad has long been a cross between full Word and Notepad. Notepad creates plain text files, while Word can store a variety of text files. Microsoft has shown no interest in developing WordPad as an option. Microsoft's thinking is clear here. Notepad for straightforward files. And if you want something advanced, there is an office suite. Wordpad dropped from the middle.
